Men's Soccer downs Wheeling Jesuit, 1-0

WHEELING, W.Va. (Oct. 15) -- Sophomore Spencer Crider (Orrstown, Pa./Chambersburg) scored the game-winning goal in double-overtime on Wednesday night to give the California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Wheeling Jesuit University.

With the win, the Vulcans improve to 8-5-2 overall and have played four overtime contests this year. The Cardinals fall to 5-9-1 this season.

The two teams battled to a scoreless tie through regulation and a first overtime period before Crider scored his third goal of the season in the second overtime off an assist from junior forward Mike Luecke (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton), who collected his sixth assist and 30th point of the season against the Cardinals.

Sophomore goalkeeper Charlie Dagnal (Carnegie, Pa./Carlynton) earned the victory in net for Cal U, making four saves in 59-plus minutes of action. Dagnal shared the shutout with classmate Derek Yobbi (South Park, Pa./South Park), who posted two saves in 45-plus minutes while in net.

The Vulcans held a slim 15-14 advantage in shots while both teams attempted four corner kicks.

Cal U returns to divisional play on Saturday, Oct. 18, for a 1 p.m. contest against Lock Haven University. The game is the first of four-straight home games for the Vulcans.
