CALIFORNIA (Oct. 11) – The California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team registered a 1-0 victory over Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) division-leading Gannon University at Roadman Park on Saturday.

The Vulcans improve to 8-3-3 overall and 4-3-2 in league play (14 points), while the Golden Knights drop to 8-4-1 and 6-2-2 (19 points) this year.

With an influx of new players and under the direction of second-year head coach Al Alvine, Cal U has doubled its win total from last season and claimed its highest single-season win total since the 2003 season.

After battling to a scoreless first period, the Vulcans claimed the eventual game-winning goal when junior forward Amanda Heister (Palmyra, Pa./Northern Lebanon) scored her seventh goal of the season off assists from senior Katie Powell (Bentleyville, Pa./Charleroi) and freshman Erin Feltz (Munhall, Pa./Steel Valley).

Senior goalkeeper Erin Cook (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) earned her fifth shutout of the year after tying her season high of eight saves on 15 shot attempts.

The Golden Knights, who are ranked No. 3 in the latest NSACC/adidas Atlantic regional rankings, held a narrow 15-14 advantage in shots.

Sophomore Sam Regney (Monaca, Pa./Monaca) led the Cal U offensive attack with five shots, while Heister and Powell combined to attempt five shots.

The Vulcans, who are now unbeaten in their last seven games, return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 15, when they face Davis & Elkins College in a non-conference contest at Elkins, W.Va. The game is set for a 3:30 p.m. start.
