BETHLEHEM, Pa. (Feb. 28) – The Vulcans scored in a pair of events on the opening day of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships on Saturday.

The California (PA) men's track & field team ranks seventh in the standings with eight points while competing in five events. Shippensburg, which has captured 14-consecutive league championships, paces the event with 53.5 points with 12 events remaining. Slippery Rock sits second with 38.5 points and Kutztown ranks third with 25 points.

Sophomore Jack Ozimek placed fourth in the long jump to account for five points on Saturday. He posted a mark of 7.23 meters (23-8.75 feet) on his final attempt and was one five entries to reach the NCAA provisional standard in the event. Ozimek was making his second career appearance at the league championships after competing in the high jump last winter.

Senior Jonathan Thrush finished sixth overall in the 5,000-meter run to score three points in the team standings. He crossed the finish line with a season-best time of 15 minutes, 21.81 seconds. Thrush was competing in the event at the indoor championships for the fourth time in his career.

Freshman Nate Hoffman sits in 10th place through four events in the heptathlon with 2,406 points. He tied for fourth in the high jump with a mark of 1.85 meters (6-0.75 feet) on his final attempt and set a collegiate best with a time of 7.33 seconds in the 60-meter dash. Hoffman has yet to compete in the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1,000-meter run.

The Vulcans have nine entries set to compete in the final day of the PSAC Championships tomorrow, Sunday, March 1, with events starting at 11:30 a.m.
