SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (May 8) – California (PA) junior
Jonathan Thrush finished second overall in the 10,000-meter run at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships on Thursday night by just five-tenths of a second.
Thrush earned All-PSAC status in the event for the second time in his career, as he also placed second in the 10,000 meters in 2023. He posted a time of 31 minutes, 6.68 seconds on Thursday while competing in a field of 20 entries.
A 5-foot-10 junior, Thrush paced the field at each checkpoint through the initial 6,400 meters of the race before slipping back to eighth with four laps remaining. He climbed to fifth place over the next 400 meters and sat third overall entering the final 400 meters. Thrush registered a split of 59.56 seconds on the final lap – tops among the field – to finish just behind junior Garrett Quinan of Shippensburg, who repeated as league champion in the event.
The Vulcans sit in a tie for fourth place in the team standings after the opening day of the league championships with eight points. The Raiders maintain the lead in the standings with 23 points after three entries scored in the 10,000 meters. East Stroudsburg sits second with 17 points and host Slippery Rock ranks third with 10 points.
Cal continues action at the PSAC Championships tomorrow with seven entries scheduled to compete, beginning at 2:35 p.m.
