Four Vulcans collect academic laurels

CALIFORNIA (May 13) – The California (PA) tennis team placed four players on the College Sport Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team on Tuesday afternoon.

Juniors Leandra Guldimann, Teddi Isherwood and Diletta Maria Mungo, along with sophomore Lilli Schreiber, received accolades from the organization. Guldimann and Mungo earned the academic honor for the second-straight year.

Guldimann set a career high with 13 wins in singles play while playing primarily at the second position. She also tied for the team lead with 16 victories in doubles action, including 12 wins at the first slot in dual matches. Guldimann boasts a 3.97 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) while majoring in biology with a concentration in pre-medical science and a minor in chemistry.

A graduate transfer, Isherwood tied for second on the team with 14 wins in singles play this year while playing at the first position. She also earned 16 victories in doubles action while playing almost exclusively with Guldimann. Isherwood holds a 3.83 GPA while pursuing a master's degree in education psychology after earning a bachelor's degree in public health and a minor in gerontology with a 3.63 GPA from Slippery Rock last May.

Mungo led the team and established a career high with 17 victories in singles play this year at primarily the third slot. She also collected 13 wins in doubles action while playing with different partners in the fall and spring. Mungo maintains a 3.97 GPA while majoring in economics.

Schreiber posted 12 wins in singles action this year while playing primarily at the fourth position. She also tallied eight victories in doubles play, including seven wins with Mungo. She holds a 3.97 GPA while pursuing a degree in psychology.

To qualify for CSC Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, maintain a cumulative 3.50 GPA and have been in the lineup for 70 percent of the team's total matches.
