California blanks Lock Haven on Senior Day

Vulcans recognize Guldimann, Mungo; Cal to face Bloomsburg in PSAC Tournament on Tuesday

CALIFORNIA (April 24) – The California (PA) closed the regular season in dominating fashion with a 7-0 win over Lock Haven on Senior Day at Roadman Park in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action on Friday evening.

NOTES
• The Vulcans (13-10, 4-2) won four of their last five matches in dual play to finish the regular season.
• Cal finished third in the PSAC West standings and earned a berth to the PSAC Tournament for the second-straight year.
• The Vulcans swept the doubles session, as the Bald Eagles featured only five players in the lineup on Friday.
• After a default win at the third slot, freshman Sofia Rodriguez and sophomore Garance Laforet rolled to a 6-0 win at the second position.
• Seniors Leandra Guldimann and Diletta Maria Mungo earned a 6-0 victory at the first slot while playing together for the first time in two years.
• Cal claimed straight-set victories in all five completed singles matches.
• Sophomore Izabelle Heacox tallied a 6-0, 6-0 win at the fourth position before Mungo clinched the match victory with a 6-0, 6-0 win at second singles.
• Guldimann followed with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the first slot and freshman Fernanda Sandoval Martinez added a 6-0, 6-0 win at the third position.
• Sophomore Gianna Bloom closed the match with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at fifth singles.
• Guldimann and Mungo have combined for over 180 career victories in singles and doubles play.

NEXT
• The Vulcans begin play in the PSAC Tournament on Tuesday, April 28, when they travel to face Bloomsburg in the quarterfinals at 2 p.m.
• The Huskies placed second in the PSAC East standings this year.
• Cal and Bloomsburg have met during the fall campaign in each of the last three seasons – each time at Roadman Park.
