Harris, Shaw garner academic laurels

CALIFORNIA (March 25) – The California (PA) tandem of senior Allycia Harris and sophomore Nina Shaw were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team on Tuesday afternoon.

Harris received the honor for a consecutive season, while Shaw earned the laurel in her first year of eligibility. The Vulcans featured multiple academic all-district honorees for the first time in nearly two decades.

A native of Wilkes-Barre, Harris appeared in 26 games with 24 starts and ranked among the top 10 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) with 8.7 rebounds and 1.96 steals per game. She also averaged 10.4 points per game, as she eclipsed career milestones of 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds this year. Harris completed her bachelor's degree in pre-athletic training last May with a 3.96 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) before enrolling in specific courses for acceptance into graduate school.

Shaw played in 27 games, including 16 starts, and averaged 4.7 points and 3.0 assists per game. She maintains a 3.66 cumulative GPA while pursuing a degree in psychology.

To qualify for CSC Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, maintain a cumulative 3.50 GPA and have played in 90 percent of the team's games or start 66 percent of the team's games. Additionally, each institution is capped at four nominees in the sport of women's basketball.

Harris was chosen as a CSC Academic All-America finalist and advances to the national ballot with the CSC Academic All-America Teams being announced in three weeks.
