Cal places sixth at league championships

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (March 2) – The Vulcans placed sixth in the team standings at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships for the third time in four years after six individual entries scored on Sunday.

The California (PA) men's track & field team collected 32 points after scoring in seven events over the weekend. Shippensburg captured the indoor league title for the 14th-consecutive season after scoring at least 20 points in four distance events. East Stroudsburg posted its best finish since 2020 by finishing second with 121.6 points, while Slippery Rock placed third with 118 points as the seeding was determined in the final event of the league championships.

Senior Noah Bernarding captured All-PSAC status in the 800-meter run for third time in his career. He crossed the finish line third overall with a time of 1 minute, 56.22 seconds on Sunday.

Junior Marlin Davis scored in a pair of events while competing at the PSAC Championships for the first time. He received All-PSAC laurels by placing third in the finals of the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.81 seconds, which reached the NCAA provisional standard. Davis also scored in the 200-meter dash on Sunday by finishing in 22.62 seconds during the finals.

Classmate Aidan McMahon also scored in the 60 meters by crossing the finish line with a time of 6.97 seconds to place seventh in the finals. The Vulcans boasted multiple podium finishes in the event for the second time in three years.

Senior Logan Pfister finished fifth in the high jump to score in the event for the seventh time in his college career. He cleared a height of 1.99 meters (6-6.25 feet) on his second attempt at the height on Sunday. Pfister entered as the weekend as the three-time, defending-indoor league champion in the event – a feat not accomplished since Jim Dempsey of Lock Haven from 2004-06.

Junior Jonathan Thrush scored in the 3,000-meter run for the third-straight year. He set a personal record in the event by placing fifth with a time of 8:38.03, topping his previous best by over 3.7 seconds. Thrush earned All-PSAC laurels yesterday in the 5,000-meter run for the third time in his career.

The Vulcans return to action in two-plus weeks when they open the outdoor season with entries competing at the 49er Classic in Charlotte, North Carolina, and the Ed Fry Invitational in Indiana, Pennsylvania.
