NEW CONCORD, Ohio (Feb. 21) – Freshman
Anna Schuessler reset her own school record in the pole vault on Friday, as the California (PA) women's track & field team captured the invitational title at Muskie Meet #4 hosted by Muskingum.
TEAM STANDINGS
• The Vulcans earned 136 points behind victories in seven individual events.
• Host Muskingum placed second with 123 points and Walsh (Ohio) ranked third with 103 points.
• Eight teams registered points at the event on Friday in Ohio.
RECORD
• Schuessler cleared a height of 3.56 meters (11-8.0 feet) on her second attempt at the height.
• She initially broke the 14-year old school record in her collegiate debut in December and reset the mark again in January.
PSAC STANDARDS
• Cal reached qualifying marks for the league championships in six different events while in Ohio.
• Schuessler climbed to fifth on the PSAC Performance List in the pole vault with her leap.
• Freshman
Riley Tighe improved her qualifying time in the 60-meter dash by crossing the finish line in 7.82 seconds, which is the sixth-fastest time in the league this winter.
• Sophomore
Emily Mahle qualified for the conference meet by reaching a personal-best mark of 1.62 meters (5-3.75 feet) in the high jump.
• Senior
Madeline Curtis reached the league standard in the 3,000-meter run for the first time this year after posting a time of 10:30.62.
• Sophomore
Gabriella Fralin finished with a conference-qualifying time of 2:22.85 in the 800-meter run and senior
Madison Murtland crossed the finish line in 5:21.36 in the 1-mile run to reach the conference standard.
• Freshman
Brianna Lee posted a league-qualifying height in the high jump for the third-straight week by clearing 1.62 meters (5-3.75 feet).
VICTORIES
• Tighe earned a pair of individual victories on Friday at Muskingum.
• She won the finals of the 60 meters by nearly two-tenths of a second with a time of 7.82 seconds.
• Tighe captured the victory in the 200-meter dash by crossing the finish line in 26.65 seconds, almost two-tenths of a second faster than the rest of the field.
• Lee and Mahle tied for first place in the high jump after both cleared each of their marks on the same attempt, including 1.62 meters on the second leap.
• Curtis won the 3,000 meters by over 75 seconds with her time of 10:30.62.
• Murtland topped the field in the mile by over eight seconds after crossing the finish line in 5:21.36, while Fralin won the 800 meters by nearly three-tenths of a second with a time of 2:22.85.
• Senior
Jazzy Harper earned the victory in the triple jump with a season-best distance of 10.88 meters (35-8.5 feet).
AT PENN STATE
• The Vulcans also traveled select entries to the Penn State Tune-Up on Friday.
• Freshman
Loreena Manser reached PSAC-qualifying marks in both the 60 and 200 meters.
• She ranked third in the preliminaries of the 60 meters with a season-best time of 7.76 seconds before placing fifth in the finals at 7.77 seconds.
• Manser posted a time of 25.15 seconds in the 200 meters while at Penn State.
NEXT
• The Vulcans will compete at the PSAC Championships on March 1-2 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, on the campus of Lehigh.
• Lehigh is serving as host of the championship event for the second-straight year.
• Cal has qualified entries in 12 different events for the conference meet with a trio of entries positioned among the top five on the performance list this winter.
