LEBANON, Pa. (Oct. 19) – The California (PA) men's golf team finished tied for fifth place at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships on Sunday afternoon following the third round at Iron Valley Golf Club.

The Vulcans shot a 23-over 311 while battling weather conditions in the final round to close the event with a 45-over 909 (302-296-311). Cal posted its lowest overall stroke total at the league championships since the PSAC adopted a three-round format in 2018. Additionally, the Vulcans have now recorded a top-five finish at the league championships four times in the last five years.

West Chester captured the league title for the sixth time in program history – and the first since 2018 – behind the lowest team score of the third round at nine-over 297. The Golden Rams topped the field by four strokes with a 27-over 891 (295-299-297). Pitt-Johnstown, which entered Sunday with an eight-stroke lead, placed second with a 31-over 895 (299-287-309) and defending-PSAC Champion Gannon finished third at 36-over 900 (300-297-303).

Sophomore Nixen Erdely paced the team on the final leader board, tying for 13th overall with a 10-over 226 (74-75-77) after shooting a five-over 77 in the third round. He made the turn at one-over and later birdied the par-five 16th for the third-straight day. Erdely, who missed last fall due to injury, entered the weekend ranked fifth on the team this year with a scoring average of 75.3 strokes over nine rounds.

Junior Gavin Goodrich finished in 17th place with a 12-over 228 (74-73-81) following a nine-over 81 in the third round. He played the opening six holes at four-under on Sunday before weather conditions worsened. Goodrich led the team with nine birdies over the weekend while playing at the PSAC Championships for the third time in his career.

Fellow juniors Ben Edwards and Chaz Ekoniak both finished with a 13-over 229 and tied for 18th overall. Edwards (74-75-80), who shot an eight-over 80 in the final round, tied for second overall in the field with 33 total pars over the three rounds. Ekoniak (80-73-76) posted a four-over 76 on Saturday, highlighted with an eagle on the par-five 16th – his third-straight day with a red number on the hole.

Junior Anthony DePietress carded a six-over 76 for a consecutive round and finished in 37th place with a 22-over 238 (82-78-78). He birdied the par-five third for the second time this weekend, a day after eagling the same hole.

IUP senior Guillermo Salazar and UPJ junior Eli Ropietski shared the individual lead after 54 holes with a three-over 219. Salazar, the 2022 league medalist, and Ropietski played six playoff holes before darkness on the course forced a tiebreaker, which Ropietski captured by virtue of his one-under 71 in the final round on Sunday.
