Results

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (May 9) – Led by top-10 performances by sophomore Nixen Erdely and junior Gavin Goodrich, the California (PA) men's golf team recorded its best finish at the NCAA Atlantic/East Regional Championships since 2013 by placing sixth overall on Saturday.

The Vulcans carded an 18-over 288 in the third round to finish with a 36-over 876 (298-290-288). In 2013, Cal finished third at the regional championships to earn a team qualifier for the NCAA National Championships. Gannon and Charleston (WV) tied for first in the team standings after 54 holes with a 21-over 861 before the Golden Knights won the regional title on the first playoff hole. Wheeling finished third at Sunnehanna Country Club with a 26-over 866 (289-285-292) after holding the lead following the second round.

Erdely and Goodrich both tied for ninth overall on the individual leader board at five-over 215. It marked the first top-10 finish by a Cal golfer since Ryan Smith in 2019, while it was the highest individual finish since Adam Jeffery tied for third in 2013.

A native of West Virginia, Goodrich (69-77-69) fired a one-under 69 for the second time this week on Saturday. He played the back nine at three-under after tallying four birdies over a six-hole stretch. Goodrich led the entire field with a staggering 14 birdies over the three days and played the nine par fives at a combined five-under. The 5-foot-11 junior finished as high as 28th overall in two previous appearances at the regional championships.

Erdely (74-71-70) shot an even-par 70 in the final round to mark the lowest round of his career. He played both the front and back nine at even-par on Saturday after tallying three birdies. Erdely finished the week with 10 birdies over three rounds. During the fall, he tied for 13th place while competing at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships for the first time in his career.

Junior Jacob Pedley posted a seven-over 77 on Saturday to finish tied for 51st place at 14-over 224 (75-72-77). He led the team with 33 pars at the regional championships and birdied the par-five, 519-yard 11th hole twice. Classmate Chaz Ekoniak also shot a seven-over 77 in the final round and tied for 82nd overall at 20-over 230 (80-73-77).

Fellow junior Anthony DePietress shot a two-over 72 in the third round and posted a six-over 146 (74-72) over the final two days. He played the back nine at one-under after recording back-to-back birdies to close his round.
