LEBANON, Pa. (Oct. 17) – The California (PA) men's golf team sits in sixth place in the standings, just three strokes back of third, after the opening round of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships on Friday afternoon at Iron Valley Country Club.
The Vulcans are in the middle of the team standings through 18 holes at the league championships with a 14-over 302. Shepherd and West Chester share the lead at seven-over 295, while Pitt-Johnstown ranks third at 11-over 299. Defending-league champion Gannon sits fourth in the team standings with a 12-over 300.

Nixen Erdely and junior
Gavin Goodrich all fired a two-over 74 on Friday and are tied for eighth overall on the leader board. Edwards is tied for third in the field with a team-leading 13 birdies, while Erdely and Goodrich both tallied four birdies in the opening round, tied for second-most on the day. Edwards played just three holes over par and was one-under through 11 holes. Making his debut at the PSAC Championships, Erdely made the turn at even-par and recorded three birdies over his final six holes. Goodrich also was at even-par at the turn behind a trio of birdies on the front nine.
Junior
Chaz Ekoniak shot an eight-over 80 in the opening round and is tied for 32nd overall. He posted three birdies over a five-hole span on the back nine. Classmate
Anthony DePietress sits in a tie for 37th place with a 10-over 82, highlighted by an eagle on the par-five 13th.
Shepherd senior Morgan Dehoff holds a five-stroke lead after firing a bogey-free, five-under 67 on Friday.
The Vulcans continue play at the PSAC Championships tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 18, with tee times beginning at 10 a.m.
