CLINTON, Pa. (Oct. 11) – In a field of entries from all three NCAA divisions, the California (PA) men's cross country team featured a trio of top-50 runners on Saturday morning at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational hosted at Youthtowne – just five miles from the Pittsburgh International Airport.
TEAM NOTES
• The Vulcans finished ninth in the team standings with 214 points.
• Ashland (OH), which is slotted No. 25 in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national poll, nearly registered a perfect score with 20 points on Saturday.
• The host Tartans, which are positioned No. 15 in the NCAA Division III rankings, ranked second with 95 points.
• The event boasted 190 runners attached to 20 teams, including six Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) programs.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
• Junior
Jonathan Thrush placed third overall on Saturday with a time of 24:35.10.
• He was only non-Ashland entry to finish the eight-kilometer race in the top-five.
• Junior
Jordan Wiedman and freshman
Jacob McGhee recorded back-to-back finishes at the event.
• Wideman placed 44th overall with a time of 26:10.10 and McGhee posted a time of 26:15.40.
• Ashland senior Nate Slater won the race by over seven seconds after crossing the finish line in 24:24.50.

• Cal is idle for two weeks before competing at the PSAC Championships on Oct. 25 in Edinboro, Pennsylvania.
• The Vulcans will be competing at Edinboro for the first time since the league championships were hosted by the Fighting Scots in 2018.
