Cal trio earns academic all-district honors

CALIFORNIA (June 18) – The California (PA) men's track & field/cross country teams placed a trio of student-athletes on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team on Tuesday afternoon.

Seniors Noah Bernarding, Ethan Moyer and Bryce Washington received accolades from the organization this season. Bernarding and Moyer were repeat honorees, while Washington garnered the laurel for the first time in his track & field career.

Bernarding earned NCAA All-America honors in the indoor campaign following a standout cross country season. He broke a combined four school records in 2024 and was selected both the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Atlantic Region and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Indoor Track Athlete of the Year. In the fall, Bernarding was an All-PSAC First-Team honoree after placing 10th overall at the league meet and earned all-region status by finishing in 17th place at the NCAA Regional Championships. The 5-foot-10 senior captured the league title in the mile at the PSAC Championships and was a NCAA Second-Team All-American in the 800-meter run during the indoor season. He later scored in multiple events at the outdoor league meet in 2024. Bernarding maintains a 3.86 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) while majoring in psychology.

Moyer set a personal record in the javelin throw while finishing fourth at the outdoor league championships. He holds a 3.60 cumulative GPA while pursuing a degree in graphic design.

Washington competed in the shot put at the PSAC Championships during both the indoor and outdoor season. He previously received academic all-district laurels twice as a member of the Cal football team. Washington maintains a 3.69 cumulative GPA while majoring in computer information systems with a minor in computer science.

To qualify for CSC Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, maintain a cumulative 3.50 GPA and be ranked among the top 50 in an individual event in their respective region on the TFRRS performance list. Additionally, each institution is capped at five nominees in the sport of men's track & field/cross country.

Note, starting in the 2023-24 academic year advancement from Academic All-District submission to the Academic All-America ballot will be determined by subcommittees of the CSC Academic All-America program (formerly CoSIDA). Bernarding was chosen as a CSC Academic All-America finalist and advances to the national ballot with the CSC Academic All-America Teams being announced next month.
