KJ McClurg and redshirt sophomore
Bryson Lucas both received major post-season awards, plus a trio of Vulcans earned All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division laurels, on Thursday afternoon.
McClurg was voted the PSAC West Athlete of the Year and Lucas was chosen the PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Year. McClurg and redshirt senior
Zyan Collins were tabbed to the All-PSAC West First-Team, while senior
Jermaine Hall, Jr. was named to the All-PSAC West Second-Team.
A native of West Virginia, McClurg became the program's first PSAC West Athlete of the Year selection in two decades and received All-PSAC West accolades for the first time in his career. He leads the PSAC and ranks eighth in the country in scoring at 22.7 points per game. McClurg has scored at least 20 points in 17 games this year, including six 30-point performances. The 6-foot-3 guard sits among the top 10 in the league in both field-goal percentage (.536; 199-of-371) and free-throw percentage (.826; 190-of-230), plus ranks sixth with 70 three-pointers made. He also averages 5.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.1 steals while playing 36.8 minutes per game, which is fourth-best in the PSAC.
Lucas is the program's first recipient of the PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Year award since 2013. He ranks fourth in the conference with 31 total blocks and seventh with 51 total steals, both team highs, and averages 6.0 rebounds per game. Lucas posted 6.7 rebounds, 1.9 steals and 1.0 blocks per game over 16 games in divisional play this year. The 6-foot-6 sophomore is averaging a career-high 11.6 points over 24.4 minutes per game in his first year as a starter.
Collins garnered All-PSAC West laurels for the third time in his career, becoming only the seventh player in program history (second in two decades) to accomplish the feat. He previously was an All-PSAC West Second-Team selection in both 2020 and 2022. Colins ranks second on the team and among the top 20 in the league in scoring at 14.4 points per game while climbing to fifth place all-time in school history with 1,710 points, second-most among active players in the PSAC. The Virginia native leads the team with a career-high 3.5 assists per game while also averaging 1.2 steals in 34.0 minutes per game.
Hall repeated as an All-PSAC Second-Team honoree while starting all 29 games as a senior. He ranks third on the team in scoring at 12.2 points per game while moving to No. 18 all-time in school history with 1,299 points. Hall leads the team with 6.6 rebounds per game while setting career highs with 86 assists and 41 steals, both second-most on the team.
The Vulcans continue play in the PSAC Tournament on Saturday, March 9, when they face Lock Haven in the semifinals at the Hagerty Family Events Center in Erie, Pennsylvania, at 12 p.m. The Bald Eagles boast the PSAC East Athlete of the Year in sophomore Justice Shoats, while Mike Nestor was voted the PSAC East Coach of the Year.
