Lucas earns first-team all-district laurels

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (March 23) – California (PA) redshirt junior Bryson Lucas was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District First-Team on Monday morning.

Lucas earned first-team all-region honors for the second time this month, as he previously received similar honors from the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA). He was also named to the all-tournament team of the NCAA Atlantic Regional Tournament after being announced as the Most Valuable Player of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament.

This year, Lucas was the only player in NCAA Division II to average at least 15.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 block per game. He shattered career highs in every statistical category after being limited to just three games last season due to injury. Lucas scored 549 total points and eclipsed the 1,000-point milestone this year while averaging 17.2 points per game. The West Virginia native also achieved the rare feat of recording over 300 rebounds and 100 assists in a year, as he posted 9.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. Lucas became the first player in program history to eclipse 1,000 points, 150 steals and 100 blocks in a career, averaging 2.2 steals and 1.3 blocks per game this season.

Lucas helped the Vulcans capture their first PSAC Championship since 2008 with an 80-79 victory at No. 5 Gannon. The title secured the program's third appearance in the NCAA Tournament during his career and Cal advanced to the second round before facing Gannon on the road for the second time in a week. Over five combined post-season games, Lucas averaged 18.0 points, 11.8 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 1.2 blocks and 2.8 steals per game.

Cal has now featured an NABC all-region selection in each of the last six years after going over a decade without an honoree. The NABC all-region teams are voted on by NABC-member coaches across NCAA Division II.

Lucas is now eligible for All-America consideration with the announcement set for later this week.
