California climbs to No. 9 in latest rankings

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Feb. 20) – The California (PA) men's basketball team reached its highest position in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Top 25 Coaches' Poll this year when it jumped five spots to No. 9 on Tuesday morning.

The Vulcans (21-3) have won eight of their last nine games with their lone loss being on the road to a nationally-ranked opponent. Last week, Cal rolled to a 95-66 victory over Clarion on Wednesday night in its lone contest of the week. The Vulcans scored nearly 60 points in the second half, which was highlighted by a 44-16 run over an eight-minute span.

Cal has been featured in the national rankings for 10-straight weeks after beginning the year unranked. The Atlantic Region boasts five teams in the latest national poll, including four teams in the top 15. Gannon (23-2) climbed two positions to No. 5 after extending its winning streak to 12 games. Charleston (W.Va.) (20-3) also vaulted five slots this week to No. 11 after winning 14 of its last 15 games, while East Stroudsburg (21-3) fell five positions to No. 15 after suffering its first loss in nearly a month. West Liberty rejoined the national rankings this week at No. 20 after winning four-straight games by double-digits.

The Vulcans return to action tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb. 21, when they travel to face Pitt-Johnstown at 7:30 p.m.
