Duo competes in heptathlon at Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa. (Dec. 14) – The California (PA) men's track & field team featured a pair of first-time entries in the heptathlon over the weekend at the River Hawk Early Season Multi & Invitational hosted by Susquehanna.

Senior Logan Pfister and sophomore John Burke were competing in the heptathlon for the first time in their careers. The field was comprised of 16 entries from NCAA Division II and Division III programs.

Pfister placed fifth overall with a total of 4,239 points over the seven events. He won the high jump and reached the qualifying standard for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships after clearing 2.00 meters (6-6.75 feet) on his second attempt at the height. Pfister placed second in the long jump with a distance of 6.78 meters (22-3.0 feet) and finished third in the 60-meter dash after crossing the finish line in 7.23 seconds. Additionally, the Chestnut Ridge product registered a heave of 10.31 meters (33-10.0 feet) on his initial attempt to rank fourth in the shot put. Pfister, a four-time league champion in the high jump, made his indoor collegiate debut in six of the seven events while at Susquehanna.

Burke finished with 3,465 points over the weekend. He totaled his most points in the 60 meters with a time of 7.49 seconds. Burke was making his indoor collegiate debut in four of the heptathlon events.

The Vulcans are idle for six weeks before opening the 2025 portion of their schedule at the Ashland Invitational on Jan. 25 in Ashland, Ohio.
