MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (May 6) – Junior
Noah Bernarding (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) improved his league-leading time and reached the NCAA provisional mark in the 800-meter run, as the California (PA) men's track & field team competed at the WVU Last Chance on Saturday.
Bernarding won the 800 meters for the third time this spring – all at WVU – after crossing the finish line with a personal record of 1 minute, 51.33 seconds. He topped the field on Saturday by over six-tenths of a second and reached the NCAA standard by 0.15 seconds. Bernarding boasts the top time in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) this spring by over three-tenths of a second.
Junior
Bryce Washington (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) set a season best in the shot put with a conference-qualifying heave of 14.53 meters (47-8.0 feet) on his first attempt. Senior
Sam Rothstein (Sykesville, Md./Century) reached the league standard in a pair of events on Saturday, posting a mark of 13.97 meters (45-10.0 feet) in the shot put and finishing third in the hammer throw with a distance of 46.19 meters (151-6.0 feet).
Seniors
John Franklin, Jr. (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) and
Avery Boea-Gisler (Pittsburgh, Pa./Serra Catholic) both placed second in hurdle events on Saturday with PSAC-qualifying times. Franklin crossed the finish line in 15.23 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles and Boea-Gisler finished with a time of 54.66 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles.
Senior
Tyrese Canada (Richmond, Va./Henrico) and freshman
Steven Graves III (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Township) registered back-to-back finishes in the 100-meter dash while reaching the league standard. Canada placed fifth overall in 10.95 seconds and Graves crossed the finish line in 11.04 seconds.
Sophomore
Logan Pfister (Fishertown, Pa./Chestnut Ridge) finished third in the high jump after clearing 1.95 meters (6-4.75 feet) on his initial attempt at the height.
Cal returns to action on May 12-14 when they compete at the PSAC Championships hosted by Slippery Rock.
