Gill earns weekly conference laurel

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (May 1) – After tossing a complete-game shutout, California (PA) sophomore pitcher Roman Gill (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) was tabbed the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Pitcher of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

Gill registered a one-hit, complete-game shutout victory on Friday at Pitt-Johnstown in league action, as he tossed his third complete game of the year which is tied for third-most in the PSAC. He tallied a pair of strikeouts against the Mountain Cat lineup on 95 pitches while getting eight batters to ground-out and nine batters to fly-out. The second-year retired the side in order four times duing the complete-game effort on Friday.

Gill collected his second win of the season and currently holds a 3.38 earned-run average and a 1.21 WHIP. The Hopewell product ranks among the top five in the league with 40 hits allowed. Gill holds opponents to batting average of .227 which ranks 13th in the conference. The 6-foot-3 sophomore garnered his first career PSAC West Pitcher of the Week nod.

The Vulcans return to action on Friday, May 5, as they travel to face Clarion for a PSAC West doubleheader, starting at 1 p.m.
