INDIANA, Pa. (April 8) – Sophomore
Logan Pfister (Fishertown, Pa./Chestnut Ridge) reached the NCAA standard while winning the high jump, as the California (PA) men's track & field team claimed four individual titles and captured the crown at the Ed Fry Invitational hosted by IUP on Saturday.
The Vulcans totaled 153.5 points after scoring in 13 different events. Pitt-Johnstown placed second in the team standings with 144.5 points and the host Crimson Hawks totaled 140 points to rank third at the event, which featured entries from 10 teams.
Pfister set an outdoor personal best in the high jump on Saturday by clearing 2.04 meters (6-8.25 feet) on his second attempt at the height. He was the lone entry in the field to surpass 2.00 meters while capturing his first win in the event this spring. Pfister, who has claimed back-to-back indoor league titles in the high jump, leads the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) in the event this year and is one of 25 entries from across the country to reach the NCAA qualifying mark this spring.
Senior
John Franklin, Jr. (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) claimed the victory in the 110-meter hurdles for the first time this year. He posted a time of 15.46 seconds to win the event by nearly six-tenths of a second. Freshman
Aidan McMahon (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) qualified for the league championships in the event after setting a season-best time of 16.17 seconds to finish third overall.
In the hammer throw, senior
Sam Rothstein (Sykesville, Md./Century) earned the win with a distance of 42.31 meters (138-10.0 feet) on his fifth attempt. He was one of five Vulcans to score in the event while at IUP. Junior
Bryce Washington (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) registered a trio of top-five finishes in throwing events, highlighted by a mark of 13.41 meters (44-0.0 feet) to place second overall in the shot put.
Senior
Kristopher Lytle (Columbia, Md./Atholton) reached multiple PSAC standards on Saturday. He placed second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.95 seconds and crossed the finish line third overall with a time of 21.97 seconds in the 200-meter dash.
Freshman
Kolby Kent (Roscoe, Pa./California) captured the victory in the 3,000-meter run by over 12 seconds with a time of 9 minutes, 32.48 seconds while at IUP.
Cal returns to action next weekend at the Bison Outdoor Classic on April 14-16 with the event being hosted by Bucknell in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.
