LEWISBURG, Pa. (April 16) – Freshman
Jonathan Thrush (Temple, Pa./Muhlenberg) reached the NCAA provisional standard in the 10,000-meter run to highlight the Vulcans tallying a combined 19 conference-qualifying marks over the weekend while competing at the Bison Outdoor Classic hosted by Bucknell.
Thursh posted a time of 30 minutes, 26.99 seconds while competing in the 10,000 meters for the first time in his career. He is the lone entry from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSA) to reach the NCAA mark in the event this season, as he boasts the top time in the league by nearly 31 seconds. Thrush was competing for the first time during the outdoor season after posting top-five finishes at the indoor league championships in multiple distance events.
Senior
Kristopher Lytle (Columbia, Md./Atholton) recorded the fastest time in the conference this year in both the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash while establishing personal records in both events. He placed fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 21.41 seconds, which is the best time in the league by over two-tenths of a second. Lytle also finished seventh overall in the 100 meters after crossing the finish line in 10.65 seconds, which improved his wind-aided personal best by 0.12 seconds.
Junior
Noah Bernarding (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) also set a pair of personal records over the weekend. He posted the fastest time in the PSAC this spring in the 800-meter run, as he finished with a time of 1:51.81. The top-three times in the league in the event were all set at Bucknell and Bernarding boasts the top mark by over one full second. The 5-foot-10 junior also recorded a time of 3:50.80 in the 1,500-meter run to rank second on the conference's performance list.
In his first action in nearly a full calendar year, senior
Avery Boea-Gisler (Pittsburgh, Pa./Serra Catholic) qualified for the PSAC Championships in the 400-meter hurdles. He rounded the track in 54.10 seconds to place seventh overall, which was just one-hundredth of a second shy of his personal best. Boea-Gisler already holds the third-best time in the PSAC this year in the event.
Freshman
Brendin Marks (Chantilly, Va./Chantilly) set a season-best mark in the triple jump and posted a pair of top-15 finishes at Bucknell. He registered a distance of 13.68 meters (44-10.75 feet) in the triple jump on his third attempt, which ranks fifth on the league's outdoor performance list. Marks also finished with a mark of 6.84 meters (22-5.25 feet) on his second attempt in the long jump over the weekend.
Fellow freshman
Daniel Munro (Brookhaven, Pa./Penncrest) totaled 5,631 points while competing in the decathlon for the first time in his collegiate career. He finished as high as second in the 110-meter hurdles, as he reached the conference-qualifying mark with a time of 15.99 seconds. Munro also recorded the fifth-best height in the pole vault this season by clearing 4.35 meters (14-3.25 feet).
Senior
John Franklin, Jr. (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) improved his conference-qualifying mark over the weekend with a season-best time of 15.11 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles. Freshman
Aidan McMahon (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) established a pair of season-best times while at Bucknell. He crossed the finish line in 15.87 seconds in the 110 hurdles and tallied a time of 57.59 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles.
Sophomore
Ian Zimmerman (Bedford, Pa./Northern Bedford County) and senior
Mason Jobe (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) each set a personal best in distance events and improved their seeding on the league's performance list. Jobe finished the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:59.39, while Zimmerman crossed the finish line in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:58.81.
Senior
Michael Berdar (Centerville, Pa./Beth-Center) cleared a season-best mark of 1.88 meters (6-2.0 feet) on his second attempt while competing in the high jump over the weekend.
The Vulcans return to action on April 21-22 at the Mountaineer Showcase in Morgantown, West Virginia.
