VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Feb. 11) – Freshman
Daniel Munro (Brookhaven, Pa./Penncrest) broke a decade-old school record in the heptathlon, as the Vulcans registered 11 conference-qualifying marks over the weekend at the D-II Pre-National Invitational hosted by Norfolk State.
Munro finished third in the heptathlon with 4,388 points over seven events while competing in the heptathlon for the first time in his collegiate career. He broke the record of 4,248 points set by Brandon Claypool at the 2013 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships. Munro won the pole vault with a height of 4.45 meters (14-7.25 feet) and ranked third in the 1,000-meter run after crossing the finish line in 2 minutes, 57.19 seconds. The 5-foot-10 freshman sits third on the league's performance list in both the pole vault and heptathlon this season, plus has qualified for the conference championships in the 60-meter hurdles

Jonathan Thrush (Temple, Pa./Muhlenberg) placed third in the 5,000-meter run over the weekend by posting a time of 14:58.30. Sophomore
Ian Zimmerman (Bedford, Pa./Northern Bedford County) finished sixth overall in the event with a time of 15:18.16 to qualify for the league championships while competing in the event for the first time this winter.
Senior
Mason Jobe (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) set a personal record in the 1-mile run and reached the conference standard with a time of 4:25.94 while in Virginia. Junior
Noah Bernarding (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) placed fifth in the 800-meter run with a PSAC-qualifying time of 1:54.43.
Sophomore
Logan Pfister (Fishertown, Pa./Chestnut Ridge) and senior
Michael Berdar (Centerville, Pa./Beth-Center) both reached the league-qualifying mark in the high jump over the weekend. Pfister cleared a height of 1.95 meters (6-4.75 feet) on his third attempt, while Berdar posted a season-best mark of 1.85 meters (6-0.75 feet) on his last attempt.
Freshman
Brendin Marks (Chantilly, Va./Chantilly) registered a pair of conference-qualifying distances while in Virginia. He finished ninth in the long jump with a mark of 6.76 meters (22-2.25 feet) on his third attempt and posted a distance of 13.31 meters (43-8.0 feet) on his final attempt in the triple jump.
Seniors
Tyrese Canada (Richmond, Va./Henrico) and
Kristopher Lytle (Columbia, Md./Atholton) both reached PSAC-qualifying standards over the weekend. Canada crossed the finish line in 7.07 seconds in the 60-meter dash and Lytle finished the 200-meter dash in 22.49 seconds. Additionally, senior
John Franklin, Jr. (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) recorded a conference-qualifying time of 8.63 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles.
The Vulcans will compete at multiple events on Friday, Feb. 17, with members of the team competing at both the Penn State Tune Up in University Park, Pennsylvania, and the Muskingum Meet in New Concord, Ohio.
