YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (Jan. 28) – Freshman
Brendin Marks (Chantilly, Va./Chantilly) broke the indoor school record and reached the NCAA qualifying mark in the long jump over the weekend, as the Vulcans featured 12 entries reaching conference standards at the Youngstown State Mid Major Invitational.
In only his third collegiate meet, Marks set the school record in the long jump with a distance of 7.16 meters (23-6.00 feet) on his second attempt while in Ohio. He finished fourth overall in a field of 50-plus entries and ranks fifth overall this season on the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Performance List. Marks shattered the mark of 6.92 meters (22-8.5 feet) set by
Jalen Cloud at last year's conference championships. The Virginia native also reached the league-qualifying standard in the triple jump with a leap of 13.00 meters (42-8.00 feet) to place ninth in the event.
Freshman
Jonathan Thrush (Temple, Pa./Muhlenberg) qualified for the conference championships in the 5,000-meter run while competing in the event for the first time in his collegiate track & field career. He placed third overall after crossing the finish line in 14 minutes, 54.74 seconds, which ranks as the fastest time in the PSAC this season by over 14 seconds.
Sophomore
Logan Pfister (Fishertown, Pa./Chestnut Ridge) placed second in the seeded portion of the high jump behind only an entry from the host Penguins. He cleared a height of 1.99 meters (6-6.25) on his first attempt at the height while in Ohio.
In his college debut, freshman
Daniel Munro (Brookhaven, Pa./Penncrest) reached the PSAC-qualifying standard in both the pole vault and 60-meter hurdles. He posted a mark of 4.30 meters (14-1.25 feet) in the pole vault on his second attempt over the weekend. Munro also crossed the finish line in 8.69 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, which is among the top-10 times in the league this winter.
Additionally, senior
John Franklin, Jr. (Pittsburgh, Shaler) posted a conference-qualifying mark in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.73 seconds.
Sophomore
Ian Zimmerman (Bedford, Pa./Northern Bedford County) qualified for the PSAC Championships in the 3,000-meter run while in Ohio. He posted a time of 8:47.18 while making his college debut in the event. Junior
Noah Bernarding (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) improved his league-qualifying time in the 800-meter run after rounding the track in 1:53.72, which is the second-fastest time in the PSAC this season.
Senior
Kristopher Lytle (Columbia, Md./Atholton) collected a pair of season-best conference qualifying times over the weekend. He placed eighth overall in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.18 seconds and crossed the finish line in 7.02 seconds in the 60-meter dash. Classmate
Tyrese Canada (Richmond, Va./Henrico) also reached the qualifying standard in the 60 meters for the first time this year with a time of 7.10 seconds.
The Vulcans return to action at the Bob Shannon Invitational hosted by Denison on Saturday, Feb. 4, in Granville, Ohio.
