GENEVA, Ohio (Jan. 21) – In their first action in nearly two months, the Vulcans reached seven Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying marks at the SPIRE Midwest Open on Saturday.
Senior
Kristopher Lytle (Columbia, Md./Atholton) improved his league-qualifying mark in multiple events while in Ohio. He placed sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.27 seconds. Lytle also registered a time of 7.05 seconds in the finals of the 60-meter dash to finish ninth overall.
Classmate
John Franklin, Jr. (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) set a personal record in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles on Saturday, posting a time of 8.46 seconds to place fourth overall. He ranked sixth in the preliminaries with a time of 8.54 seconds. Franklin ranks fourth on the conference's performance list this season in the event.
Fellow senior
Sam Rothstein (Sykesville, Md./Century) qualified for the PSAC Championships in the shot put with a personal-best distance of 13.93 meters (45-8.5 feet) on his fourth attempt. He finished fifth in the event on Saturday.
In his collegiate track & field debut, freshman
Jonathan Thrush (Temple, Pa./Muhlenberg) reached the league-qualifying standard in the 3,000-meter run. He crossed the finish line with a time of 8 minutes, 48.15 seconds, which is the fourth-best time in the conference this winter. Junior
Noah Bernarding (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) qualified for the conference championships in the 800-meter run while in Ohio, posting a time of 1:54.79 to finish third in the event.
Sophomore
Logan Pfister (Fishertown, Pa./Chestnut Ridge) placed second in the high jump with a league-qualifying height of 1.92 meters (6-3.5 feet) on his second attempt at the mark.
The Vulcans return to Ohio when they compete at the Youngstown State Mid-Major Invitational on Friday, Jan. 27, at 1 p.m.
