MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (May 7) – The California University of Pennsylvania women's track & field competed at the Last Chance Meet hosted by West Virginia on Saturday with three entries reaching qualifying standards for the upcoming league championships.
Junior
Malia Anderson (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) improved her qualifying time for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships in the 800-meter run. She placed third overall in the event, behind an Olympic qualifier and a WVU entry, with a time of 2 minutes, 13.21 seconds. Anderson boasts the fastest time in the league this spring in the 800 meters by over 1.4 seconds.
Junior
Beyoncé Kelly (Edgewood, Md./Harford Technical) won the high jump for the fourth time this spring. She cleared a height of 1.65 meters (5-5.0 feet) on her second attempt at the height. Kelly has reached the NCAA qualifying standard this outdoor season and ranks second on the league's performance list.
Fellow junior
Kailee Bunyard (Columbia, Md./Atholton) placed second in the 100-meter hurdles on Saturday while reaching the conference standard with a time of 15.27 seconds.
Freshmen
Vanessa Damone (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) and
Bailey Popovich (Johnstown, Pa./United) both established personal records while at WVU. Damone posted a time of 12.57 seconds in the 100-meter dash, plus finished with a time of 26.18 seconds in the 200-meter dash, while Popovich registered a time of 12.72 seconds in the 100 meters.
Sophomore
Quintasia Streeter (Brentwood, Pa./Bentworth) set a personal best in the long jump with a distance of 4.93 meters (16-2.25 feet) on her sixth attempt on Saturday.
Junior
Darcie Frazier (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) recorded a pair of top-five marks while at WVU. She placed third in the shot put with a heave of 10.77 meters (35-4.0 feet) and finished fourth in the high jump with a height of 1.35 meters (4-5.0 feet). Fellow junior
Sydney Urbine (Centerville, Pa./Beth-Center) placed fourth in the 400-meter dash with a personal-best time of 1:00.21, which was the best in her heat.
The Vulcans return to action on May 12-14 at the PSAC Championships in Millersville, Pennsylvania.
