Kelly receives First-Team All-America honors

ALLENDALE, Mich. (May 28) – California University of Pennsylvania junior Beyoncé Kelly (Edgewood, Md./Harford Technical) became the program's first All-American in a field event in over 25 years on Saturday afternoon, as she placed eighth overall in the high jump at the NCAA Championships.

Kelly tied her personal record of 1.73 meters (5-8.0 feet) in the high jump, clearing the height on her third and final attempt. She entered the event seeded No. 20 nationally with a qualifying mark of 1.71 meters (5-7.25 feet). Kelly cleared the initial three heights (1.62, 1.67 and 1.70 meters) on Saturday on her second attempt at each mark before finishing with a height of 1.73 meters.

A native of Maryland, Kelly earned First-Team All-America honors while competing at the NCAA Championships for the second time in her career. She became the first All-American in a field event since Christine Czaja accomplished the feat in the discus throw in 1996. Kelly also joined Jenise Lockhart (1985) as the only NCAA All-Americans in the high jump in school history.

Concordia St. Paul (Minn.) senior Arika Robinson captured the National Championship in the high jump after clearing a height of 1.82 meters (5-11.5 feet), the best mark in NCAA Division II this spring.

Kelly previously registered a height of 1.73 meters in May 2021 at the Mountain Cat Last Chance hosted by Pitt-Johnstown.
