Divonne Franklin (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) competed in the preliminaries of the 200-meter dash at the NCAA Championships on Friday evening.
Franklin placed No. 14 overall in the preliminaries with a wind-aided time of 23.99 seconds while running in lane two of the second heat. She was competing in the 200 meters at the NCAA Championships for the first time in her career, as she previously appeared in both the 60-meter dash and 100-meter dash at the national meet. Franklin earned Second-Team All-America status in the 100 meters yesterday after finishing No. 10 overall in the preliminaries.
Academy of Art (Calif.) junior Selena Arjona-Alcazar recorded the fastest time in the preliminaries of the 200 meters on Friday with a blistering wind-aided mark of 23.40 seconds, which was over one-tenth of a second faster than the field of 24 entries.
