Divonne Franklin (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) received Second-Team All-America laurels in the 100-meter dash at the NCAA Championships on Thursday evening.
Franklin narrowly missed advancing to the finals of the event, as she was just one-hundredth of a second shy of the last at-large qualifying spot. She placed No. 10 overall in the event with a time of 11.62 seconds while running in lane five of the initial preliminary heat. The first heat featured the defending-National Champion in the event and resulted in five of the top-10 times in a field of 23 entries.
Minnesota State sophomore Makayla Jackson – the National Champion in the 60-meter dash this winter – registered the fastest overall mark in the preliminaries of the 100 meters, as she crossed the finish line with a time of 11.40 seconds.
Franklin earned NCAA All-America status for the fourth time in her career, matching distance standout Julie Friend for the most in program history. The Philadelphia native has received All-America honors in the 100 meters in each of the last two years, as she placed ninth in the finals of the event at the 2021 NCAA Championships.
A 5-foot-10 senior, Franklin returns to action at the NCAA Championships tomorrow, Friday, May 27, when she competes in the preliminaries of the 200-meter dash at 5:45 p.m. EST.
