Vulcans begin action at PSAC Championships

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. (May 12) – The Vulcans opened competition at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships on Thursday with a pair of entries in the heptathlon, plus an additional entry in the hammer throw.

Juniors Anna Ebersole (Pottstown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) and Darcie Frazier (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) both rank among the top five in the heptathlon through four events. Ebersole sits second overall with 2,825 points after establishing three personal records on Thursday. She won the shot put with a personal-best distance of 11.62 meters (38-1.5 feet) and placed second in the high jump after clearing 1.60 meters (5-3.0 feet). Ebersole also ranked fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.83 seconds and finished fourth overall in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.93 seconds, both personal records.

Frazier ranks fifth overall in the heptathlon with 2,529 points with three events remaining. She finished in second place in the 200 meters with a personal-best time of 26.40 seconds, plus placed fifth in the shot put with a distance of 10.26 meters (33-8.0 feet). Frazier also tied her personal record in the high jump with a height of 1.45 meters (4-9.0 feet) and set a personal best with a time of 16.50 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles.

Senior Shantel Springer (East Palestine, Ohio/Springfield Local) set a personal record in the hammer throw on Thursday. She placed 14th overall in the event after recording a mark of 43.81 meters (143-8.0 feet) on her second attempt. Springer was competing at the league championships for the first time in the hammer throw, as previously qualified for outdoor conference meet in the triple jump as a freshman.
