Divonne Franklin (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) broke the school record in the 100-meter dash and junior
Beyoncé Kelly (Edgewood, Md./Harford Technical) reached the NCAA standard in the high jump over the weekend at the Mountaineer Showcase hosted by West Virginia.
Franklin broke her own school record set last year during the finals over the weekend. She captured the victory in the 100 meters by over three-tenths of a second and broke the school mark by seven-hundredths of a second with a time of 11.58 seconds. Franklin improved her seeding on the national performance list while at WVU, as she currently ranks among the top 10 in the country. The Philadelphia native registered a wind-aided time of 11.55 seconds during the preliminaries, which would have eclipsed the 20-year old all-time PSAC record in the event. Franklin also earned the win in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.19 seconds, nearly one full second ahead of the field.
Kelly posted the victory in the high jump with a season-best mark of 1.71 meters (5-7.25 feet) on her second attempt at the height. She is one of only two individuals in the league to clear 1.70 meters this spring. Kelly registered her third win in the event this campaign after competing at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Championships in the high jump.
The Vulcans featured three of the top-four finishers in the triple jump over the weekend with all three reaching the standard for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships. Sophomore
Quintasia Streeter (Brentwood, Pa./Brentwood) won the event and set a personal best with a wind-aided mark of 11.27 meters (36-11.75 feet), which ranks sixth-best in the league this season. Freshman
Jazzy Harper (Media, Pa./Strath Haven) qualified for the conference meet after recording a wind-aided distance of 11.07 meters (36-4.00 feet) to finish second in the triple jump, while classmate
Tatum Hoffman (Ligonier, Pa./Ligonier Valley) placed fourth with a mark of 10.76 meters (35-3.75 feet).
Hoffman also reached the league standard in the high jump for the first time this spring. She placed fourth in the event with a height of 1.58 meters (5-2.25 feet) on her final attempt at the mark. Junior
Anna Ebersole (Pottstown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) also cleared 1.58 meters (5-2.25 meters) in the high jump at WVU and placed third in the event after reaching the height on her first attempt. She set a personal best in the javelin throw over the weekend, placing fourth overall with a distance of 33.30 meters (109-3.00 feet).
Junior
Kailee Bunyard (Columbia, Md./Atholton) won the 100-meter hurdles for the second time this month. She set a personal record of 14.75 seconds in the finals to win the race by 0.25 seconds after placing third in the preliminaries. Harper and freshman
Iyana Campbell (Philadelphia, Pa./George Washington Carver HSES) both qualified for the PSAC Championships in the 100-meter hurdles with their times during the preliminaries over the weekend. Harper placed fifth with a time of 15.83 seconds and Campbell was sixth overall after crossing the finish line in 15.88 seconds.
Sophomore
Madeline Curtis (Harborcreek, Pa./Harbor Creek) improved her league-qualifying time in the 1,500-meter run after rounding the track in 4 minutes, 55.76 seconds. Junior
Sydney Urbine (Centerville, Pa./Beth-Center) qualified for the conference meet while competing in the 1,500 meters for the first time in her collegiate career, as she posted a time of 4:56.28. Fellow junior
Malia Anderson (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) placed fourth overall in the 800-meter run while at WVU with a season-best time of 2:13.55.
The Vulcans cruised to the victory in the 4x400-meter relay, winning the event by nearly 17 seconds. The relay of Franklin, freshman
Taylor Timmons (Butler, Pa./Butler), Anderson and Kelly set a season-best time of 3:58.70 to rank second on the league's performance list this spring.
Cal U also established a season-best mark in the 4x100 relay, as Franklin, junior
Darcie Frazier (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg), freshman
Vanessa Damone (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) and Timmons posted a time of 47.94 seconds.
Individually, Frazier reached the PSAC qualifying mark in the long jump and finished third overall with a distance of 5.31 meters (17-5.25 feet) on her sixth and final attempt.
Senior
Shantel Springer (East Palestine, Ohio/Springfield Local) won the hammer throw over the weekend and qualified for the league championships. She set a personal record with a heave of 43.09 meters (141-4.00 feet) on her second attempt. Springer also placed second in the shot put at WVU with a distance of 11.08 meters (36-4.25 feet).
The Vulcans return to action at the Paul Kaiser Classic hosted by Shippensburg on Saturday, April 30, while select entries will compete at the prestigious Penn Relays from April 28-30.
