Franklin earns weekly league accolade

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (April 20) – Following a standout performance over the weekend, California University of Pennsylvania senior Divonne Franklin (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) was chosen the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Track Athlete of the Week for the second time this spring on Wednesday afternoon.

Franklin set a school record and broke a facility record while winning a pair of individual events with NCAA provisonal marks at the Bison Outdoor Classic hosted by Bucknell over the weekend. In the 200-meter dash, she shattered the school record she set earlier this year with a time of 24.05 seconds. Franklin won the race by over seven-tenths of a second and broke the school mark by over four-tenths of a second. The Philadelphia native broke the facility record in the 100-meter dash while at Bucknell. She crossed the finish line in 11.67 seconds to eclipse the previous mark set in 2014 by one-hundredth of a second, as she was the only entry in a field of 80-plus sprinters to record a sub-12.0 second time.

The 2021 PSAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Year, Franklin now boasts the fastest time in the Atlantic Region in both the 100 and 200 meters this spring. She holds the top mark in the league in the 100 meters by over five-tenths of a second, while recording the fastest time in the 200 meters by nearly four-tenths of a second.

Franklin has received the weekly honor from the conference four times in her career.

Cal U returns to action this weekend at the Mountaineer Showcase hosted by West Virginia on April 22-23 in Morgantown, West Virginia.
