LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (April 12) – After reaching the NCAA standard with a personal best over the weekend, California University of Pennsylvania senior
Jalen Cloud (Leechburg, Pa./Kiski) was tabbed the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.
Cloud won the triple jump and established a personal record in the event on Saturday at the Ed Fry Invitational hosted by IUP. He registered a distance of 14.85 meters (48-8.75 feet) on his second attempt to improve his NCAA provisional mark in the event. Cloud cruised to his second victory in the triple jump this spring, as he was the lone entry in the field over the weekend to clear 14.00 meters.
A 5-foot-9 senior, Cloud ranks second on the league's performance list and sits No. 15 on the national list in the triple jump. He is one of only five standouts in the conference to reach the championship qualifying standard in both the triple jump and long jump during the outdoor season. Cloud was selected the PSAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Year last month after breaking school records in both the triple jump and long jump.
Cloud became the program's first PSAC Field Athlete of the Week recipient – indoor or outdoor – since May 2016.
The Vulcans return to action this weekend at the Bison Outdoor Classic hosted by Bucknell on April 14-16 in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.
