MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (March 19) – The Vulcans qualified four field entries for the league championships over the weekend while opening the outdoor season by competing at the Stan Romanoski Open hosted by West Virginia.
Junior
Beyoncé Kelly (Edgewood, Md./Harford Technical) reached the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying standard in multiple events on Saturday. She won the high jump after clearing 1.67 meters (5-5.75 feet) on her second attempt at the height. Kelly also reached the league-qualifying mark while making her college debut in the long jump with a distance of 5.41 meters (17-9.0 feet), which was third-best in the field.
Junior
Anna Ebersole (Pottstown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) finished second in the high jump and qualified for the conference meet with a height of 1.62 meters (5-3.75 feet). Classmate
Darcie Frazier (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) reached the league standard and placed second in the long jump with a distance of 5.46 meters (17-11.0 feet).
The Vulcans won the 4x100-meter relay by over one full second, as freshman

Vanessa Damone (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) and freshman
Bailey Popovich (Johnstown, Pa./United) with a time of 50.85 seconds while at West Virginia. Cal U also placed second in the 4x400-meter relay, behind only the relay entry from Pitt, with a time of 4 minutes, 21.55 seconds.
Senior
Shantel Springer (East Palestine, Ohio/Springfield Local) registered a trio of top-five finishes while setting three personal records over the weekend. She placed third in the shot put with a heave of 10.81 meters (35-5.75 feet), while also finishing fourth in both the discus throw and hammer throw. Springer posted a distance of 31.12 meters (102-1.0 feet) in the discus, while finishing with a mark of 38.66 meters (126-10.0 feet) in the hammer.
Freshmen
Tatum Hoffman (Ligonier, Pa./Ligonier Valley) and
Jazzy Harper (Media, Pa./Strath Haven) both posted a top-five finish in the triple jump at West Virginia. Hoffman placed third with a mark of 10.72 meters (35-2.0 feet) on her first attempt, while Harper recorded a distance of 10.53 meters (34-6.75 feet) to finish fifth in the event.
The Vulcans return to action next weekend with select members of the team competing at the Raleigh Relays hosted by NC State, while others will compete at the Bethany Invitational.
