Franklin advances to finals, ties PSAC record

PITTSBURG, Kan. (March 11) – California University of Pennsylvania senior Divonne Franklin (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) tied the all-time league record and advanced to the finals of the 60-meter dash at the NCAA Championships on Friday afternoon.

Franklin placed eighth overall in the preliminaries with a blistering time of 7.474 seconds after entering the event seeded No. 15 on the national performance list. She broke her own school record set two weeks ago at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships by four-hundredths of a second. Franklin also tied the all-time league record of 7.48 seconds set in 2002 by former IUP National Champion Amber Plowden.

Minnesota State sophomore Makayla Jackson won the preliminaries by one-tenth of a second with a time of 7.31 seconds after entering as the top seed in the country.

Franklin advances to the finals of the 60 meters at the NCAA Championships tomorrow, Saturday, March 12, in Pittsburg, Kan., at 6:30 p.m. EST.
