Divonne Franklin (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) broke her own school, championship and facility record in the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash on Saturday during the opening day of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships.
Franklin registered a blistering time of 7.52 seconds to win the preliminaries by five-hundredths of a second. She eclipsed the previous records she set at the 2020 league championships by three-hundredths of a second. Franklin now ranks No. 12 on the national performance list in the 60 meters this season. The Philadelphia native also won the preliminaries of the 200-meter dash on Saturday with a time of 24.90 seconds, which was over one-tenth of a second faster than the rest of the field.
Junior
Anna Ebersole (Pottstown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) earned All-PSAC status in the pentathlon after finishing second in the event with 3,265 points. She became the program's first entry in the pentathlon to receive All-PSAC laurels in a decade while also reaching the NCAA provisional standard. In the pentathlon, Ebersole placed second in the 60-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 9.60 seconds and finished second in the shot put with a mark of 11.15 meters (36-7.0 feet). The Bishop Shanahan product also placed third in the high jump during the pentathlon by clearing 1.58 meters (5-2.25 feet).
Fellow junior
Darcie Frazier (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) also scored in the pentathlon on Saturday, placing fourth overall with a career-high 3,082 points. She won the long jump with a distance of 5.25 meters (17-2.75 feet), plus finished third in the 60-meter hurdles (9.61 seconds) and shot put (10.96 meters/35-11.5 feet). Freshman
Tatum Hoffman (Ligonier, Pa./Ligonier Valley) scored in the pentathlon at the league championships by finishing in eighth place with 2,805 points. She finished third in the high jump with a height of 1.58 meters (5-2.25 feet) on her first attempt.
Additionally, the tandem of Frazier and Ebersole also scored in the long jump at the league championships. Frazier finished fifth in the event with a mark of 5.36 meters (17-7.0 feet) and Ebersole ranked seventh with a distance of 5.26 meters (17-3.25 feet).
The Vulcans are tied for fifth in the team standings with 20 points after six events at the league championships. Edinboro leads the league championships with 39 points, while Millersville sits second with 30 points and Slippery Rock ranks third with 29 points.
Junior
Kailee Bunyard (Columbia, Md./Atholton) qualified for the finals of the 60-meter hurdles on Saturday. She placed second in the preliminaries while matching her personal-best time of 9.18 seconds.
Freshman
Vanessa Damone (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) set a season-best time in the preliminaries of the 60 meters, crossing the finish line in 7.96 seconds.
The Vulcans return to action at the PSAC Championships tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 27, with events starting at 11:30 a.m.
