LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Feb. 15) – Following a record-setting performance, California University of Pennsylvania junior
Beyoncé Kelly (Edgewood, Md./Harford Technical) was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.
Kelly broke the indoor school record and reached the NCAA provisional standard in the high jump on Friday while competing at the Fastrack National Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. She won the event by clearing 1.68 meters (5-6.00 feet) on her first attempt at the height in New York. Kelly surpassed the previous record of 5-5.25 feet set in 2008 by Joanna Nist, who was a 2016 inductee into the Cal U Athletic Hall of Fame following a prolific volleyball career. The Maryland native is tied for the top mark on the league's performance list in the high jump this winter.
A 5-foot-4 junior, Kelly competed at the NCAA Outdoor Championships last spring in the high jump. She has received U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) all-region honors in twice and placed second in the high jump at the 2021 PSAC Outdoor Championships.
Kelly earned PSAC Field Athlete of the Week laurels for the second time in her career.
The Vulcans return to action on Saturday, Feb. 19, when they compete in Ohio at both the Kent State Tune Up and Mount Union Raider Tune-Up.
