MARIETTA, Ohio (Jan. 22) – The California University of Pennsylvania women's track & field team started the 2022 portion of its schedule by claiming the invitational crown at the Pioneer Invitational hosted by Marietta (Ohio) on Saturday.
The Vulcans finished with 179 points behind seven victories to earn their second team title since 2020. Seton Hill finished second in the team standing with 150 points and the host Pioneers ranked third with 65 points. The event featured a variety of schools from NCAA Division II and III, plus NAIA ,as the event featured 13 teams with five NCAA Division II programs.
Senior
Divonne Franklin (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop John Carrol) captured a pair of individual victories on Saturday. She won the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.56 seconds, which reached the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) standard. Franklin also captured the victory in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.19 seconds.
Junior
Tatyana Young (Marion, Ohio/ River Valley) secured the individual victory in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1 minute, 2.77 seconds. She was followed by freshman
Taylor Timmons (Butler, Pa./Butler) and sophomore
Hannah Rekito (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin), who finished second and third, respectively.
The 4x200-meter relay team of Franklin, Young, junior
Darcie Frazier (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) and sophomore
Quintasia Streeter (Brentwood, Pa./Brentwood) secured a first-place finish after posting a time of 1:51.32 seconds. Frazier also captured the win in long jump after posting a mark of 5.27 meters (17-3.50 feet) on her second attempt.
Cal U captured the 4x400-meter relay title by registering a time of 4:26.82 seconds with the team of Timmons, junior
Malia Anderson (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem), classmate
Sydney Urbine (Centerville, Pa./Beth-Center) and Rekito.
The Vulcans collected 33 points in the triple jump event, as Cal U finished first to fifth in the final standings. Streeter led the way by posting a mark of 10.80 meters (35-5.25 feet) on her final jump to collect the victory.
Junior
Beyoncé Kelly (Edgewood, MD./Harford Technical) and freshman
Tatum Hoffman (Ligonier, Pa./Ligonier Valley) both reached the PSAC Championship qualifying mark, as they tied for second by clearing 1.60 meters (5-3.00 feet).
Cal U returns to action next weekend when it competes at the National Mid-Major Invitational hosted by Youngstown State on Jan. 28-29.
