BELLE VERNON, Pa. (Sept. 5) – The California University of Pennsylvania women's golf team holds an 11-stroke lead in the team standings after the opening round of the Vulcan Invitational on Sunday at Cedarbrook Golf Course.
The Vulcans rank first in the standings after 18 holes with a 38-over 326 after featuring four golfers among the top 10 on the individual leader board. Charleston (W.Va.) is currently in second place with a 47-over 335, while Millersville carded a 58-over 346. A total of 10 teams are sponsoring full teams at the season-opening event.
Freshman
Keegan Selinsky (Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) recorded an opening-day round of five-over 77 while making her college debut. She recorded nine pars and a pair of birdies on the front nine while playing the Gold Course on Sunday. Selinsky holds a four-stroke lead over the field, which features over 60 golfers.
Senior
Jaclyn Smith (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) sits in a tie for fifth place with a 10-over 82. She tied for the lead in the field with 11 pars and played the 10 par fours at four-over on Sunday. Sophomore
Addi Mann (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) posted an 11-over 83 and ranks eighth overall after the opening round. She carded par on five of the initial six holes on the front nine.
Freshman
Madelyn Myers (Smock, Pa./Uniontown) collected nine pars in her college debut and is tied for ninth place at 12-over 84. Senior
Rachel Wilson (Warren, Pa./Warren) is tied for 21st overall after shooting a 16-over 88 on Sunday, highlighted by a birdie on the par-three second.
As an individual, junior
Lexi Tofanelli (Evans City, Pa./Seneca Valley) matched her career-best score with a 13-over 85 behind six pars and is tied for 14th overall.
The Vulcans close out their season-opening event tomorrow, Monday, Sept. 6, with 18 holes at Cedarbrook Golf Course.
