Ari Kaser sits among the top 10 on the individual leader board, as the California (PA) women's golf team ranks seventh in the team standings following the opening round of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships on Wednesday.
The Vulcans shot a 58-over 346, just two strokes back of fifth place, in the first round at Berkleigh Country Club. Six-time, defending-league champion Gannon holds a four-stroke lead in the 11-team field with a 20-over 308. West Chester sits second after the opening round with a 24-over 312, while Bloomsburg ranks third at 45-over 333.
Kaser shot an eight-over 80 on Wednesday and sits in a four-way tie for eighth overall. She birdied the par-four, 315-yard fourth and played both the front and back nine at four-over. Kaser entered the league championships with a career-best scoring average of 82.6 strokes this year over nine events.
Sophomore
Amanda Woods is tied for 20th place with a 13-over 85 in the first round, highlighted by a birdie on the par-three, 139-yard sixth. Classmate
Angelique Epondulan sits one stroke back at 14-over 86 and in a tie for 23rd overall, while freshman
Isabella Benz rounds out the team scorers in a tie for 40th place at 23-over 95. Junior
Jessica Ricciardi shot a 26-over 98 in the opening round and is tied for 44th overall.
Gannon freshman Anastasia Lopes holds a four-stroke lead after play on Wednesday with an even-par 72. She led the field with 14 pars in the opening round.
The PSAC Championships continue tomorrow, Thursday, April 23, with tee times starting at 10 a.m. The Vulcans look to begin play at approximately 10:40 a.m.
