ALLENDALE, Mich. (Sept. 25) – In its first of back-to-back events in Michigan, the California University of Pennsylvania women's golf team finished ninth while playing two rounds at the Gilda's Club Laker Fall Invitational hosted by Grand Valley State on Saturday.
The Vulcans shot a 96-over 672 (326-346) while playing The Meadows, which has hosted nine NCAA Division II National Championships. The host Lakers claimed the tournament title by 11 strokes with a 24-over 600 (300-300) after shooting the lowest score in each round. Findlay placed second in the team standings with a 35-over 611 (304-307) and Wayne State (Mich.) finished third at 59-over 635 (316-319). The event featured over 60 golfers from 11 teams, including eight schools in Michigan.
Sophomore
Addi Mann (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) led the team and tied for 32nd overall with a 21-over 165 (80-85). She totaled a combined 18 pars over the two rounds, including four-straight pars on the front nine in the opening round. Mann has been the team's top finisher in all three events this fall while posting a scoring average of 82.0 strokes.
Freshman
Keegan Selinsky (Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) posted a 23-over 167 (78-89) to tie for 40th place while in Michigan. She carded 16 pars and fired a birdie on the par-four sixth in the opening round. Senior
Jaclyn Smith (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) tied for 43rd overall with a 24-over 168 (82-86) after collecting 16 pars and two birdies on Saturday.
Senior
Rachel Wilson (Warren, Pa./Warren) shot a 28-over 172 (86-86) to tie for 49th place behind 16 pars. Freshman
Madelyn Myers (Smock, Pa./Uniontown) rounded out the team players and finished in 64th place with a 51-over 195 (101-94).
Senior
Colby Roberts (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) also competed at the event as individual, shooting a 46-over 190 (88-102) to place 62nd overall. She tallied a combined 13 pars and a birdie on the par-four sixth in the first round.
Freshman Paula Badino of Grand Valley State earned medalist honors by one stroke with a five-over 149 (72-77). She registered six birdies and 20 pars while playing at her home course.
The Vulcans continue play in The Great Lakes State on Sept. 26-27 at the Bulldog Fall Invitational hosted by Ferris State in Big Rapids, Michigan.
