SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (Oct. 9) – Freshman
Ian Zimmerman (Bedford, Pa./Northern Bedford County) finished third overall on Saturday afternoon, as the Vulcans competed at the Bill Lennox Invitational hosted by Slippery Rock at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds.
The California University of Pennsylvania men's cross country team finished fourth in the standings with 124 points while competing in a field of eight teams. Youngstown State claimed the invitational title with 26 points while featuring four of the top-10 finishers. Host Slippery Rock finished second with 56 points and Gannon totaled 71 points to rank third in the team standings.
Zimmerman placed third in a field of nearly 70 runners with a time of 26 minutes, 22 seconds while competing at the eight-kilometer race. He posted a pace time of 5:18 and finished 13 seconds behind the individual winner. Zimmerman posted a top-10 finish for the first time in his career.
Sophomore
Noah Bernarding (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) finished in 19th place after crossing the finish line in 27:34, while junior
Mason Jobe (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) placed 22nd overall while posting a time of 27:45.
Senior
Matt Young (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont Hilltop) ranked fourth on the team and finished 42nd overall after registering a time of 30:54, while freshman
Sam Shedden (Canton, Pa./North Penn-Liberty) rounded out the team scorers with a time of 32:19 to place 45th overall.
The Vulcans are idle for nearly two weeks as they prepare to compete at the PSAC Championships on Oct. 22 in Kutztown, Pennsylvania.
