ASHLAND, Ohio (Oct. 10) – Senior
Rachel Wilson (Warren, Pa./Warren) tied for second overall on the individual leader board on Sunday, as the California University of Pennsylvania women's golf team finished fourth in the team standings at the Eagle Invitational hosted by Ashland.
The Vulcans shot a 98-over 682 (340-342) to place fourth while playing at the par-73 Ashland Golf Club. The host Eagles fired the lowest score of the tournament in the second round to earn the invitational title by five strokes with a 78-over 662 (335-327). Ohio Dominican finished second in the team standings with an 83-over 667 (330-337) and Davenport (Mich.) placed third with an 86-over 670 (335-335). The event featured eight teams from four different conferences and five states.
Wilson carded her best finish of the fall season by shooting a 17-over 163 (81-82) while in Ohio. She tied for third in the field with 17 pars and played three holes under par over the two rounds. Wilson played the back nine at a combined four-over after firing a birdie on the par-five 11th in the opening round before recording an eagle on the same hole on Sunday.
Sophomore
Addi Mann (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) tied for 14th overall in a field of 50 golfers with a 27-over 173 (85-88). She totaled 10 pars and posted a birdie on the par-five 15th in the opening round. Senior
Jaclyn Smith (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) and freshman
Keegan Selinsky (Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) both posted a 29-over 175 and tied for 18th place. Smith (93-82) collected birdies on back-to-back par fives on the back nine on Sunday, while Selinsky (81-94) played the back nine at three-over during the opening round.
Freshman
Madelyn Myers (Smock, Pa./Uniontown) rounded out the team scorers at Ashland by tying for 35th overall with a 41-over 187 (97-90). She carded a birdie on the par-four eighth in both rounds.
Senior
Colby Roberts (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) led a trio of individuals at the event, shooting a 34-over 180 (92-88) to finish in 30th place.
Ohio Dominican junior Alyssa Newsom earned medalist honors by three strokes after firing a 14-over 160 (78-82). She tied for the lead in the field with five birdies and also carded 14 pars at the event.
The event marked the final competition for the Vulcans in the fall season, as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships have been shifted to the spring campaign.
