CALIFORNIA (March 2) – The California University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team will host fifth-seeded Pitt-Johnstown in the first round of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament this evening, Monday, March 2, at the Convocation Center, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
TICKETS
Cal U is selling tickets for the PSAC Tournament at the cost of $10 for adults, $5 for students and PSAC students with valid ID are admitted for free.

STORYLINES
• Last Time Out: Cal U finished the regular season with a 63-59 loss versus Gannon on Saturday while hosting Senior Day.
• The Vulcans are making their 20th-consecutive appearance in the PSAC Tournament while reaching 20 wins for the sixth-straight year.
• The winner of the contest will travel to top-seeded IUP in the quarterfinals of the PSAC Tournament on Wednesday, March 4, at 5:30 p.m.
PSAC TOURNAMENT
• Cal U is the No. 4 seed in the PSAC Tournament and will host No. 5 Pitt-Johnstown, while No. 6 Seton Hill will travel to face No. 3 Edinboro in the first round.
• Top-seed IUP and No. 2 seed Gannon both earned first-round byes and will return to action in the quarterfinals.
• The final four teams remaining will travel to the highest remaining seed in the PSAC West for the semifinals and the championship on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
AROUND THE REGION
• The Vulcans climbed to seventh in the NCAA Atlantic regional rankings last week, however, the rankings don't include the results from the last week of the regular season.
• The winners of both the PSAC Tournament and MEC Tournament will receive an automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament, while the top-five remaining teams in the final regional rankings receive at-large bids.
• Fayetteville State captured an automatic bid after winning the CIAA Tournament over the weekend. The Broncos captured their first conference title since 2010 despite not being featured in the Atlantic regional rankings all season.
SCOUTING THE VULCANS
• In her ninth year as head coach,
Jess Strom enters with a 211-60 record with the program and is just one victory shy of tying the all-time school record for wins. Strom guided the Vulcans to back-to-back PSAC Championships in 2015 and 2016.
• Junior
Bianca Jasper leads the PSAC with 2.43 steals per game while ranking third in the league with 4.8 assists per game and a 2.29 assist-to-turnover ratio. She also is averaging a career-high 10.8 points per game after scoring in double-digits three times in the last four games.
• Cal U leads the league and ranks fifth in the country with a plus-8.71 turnover margin per game. The Vulcans force 20.96 turnovers per game while collecting 11.4 steals per game.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAIN CATS
• In his seventh year as head coach, Mike Drahos has posted a 75-118 record while at Pitt-Johnstown. He has led the Mountain Cats to the PSAC Tournament in back-to-back years after previously not making the post-season since 2014.
• UPJ features three players scoring in double-digits this season with Gabrielle Smith and Ali McGrath combining over 30 points per game. Smith was an All-PSAC West First-Team selection last year and leads the team with 16.6 points per game while shooting over 46 percent from the floor.
• The Mountains Cats rank behind only the Vulcans in the PSAC this season with 18.39 turnovers forced per game while recording 10.1 steals per game.
SERIES
• Cal U holds a 13-1 record in the series with Pitt-Johnstown since the Mountain Cats joined the PSAC in the 2014-15 campaign.
• The Vulcans have won the last 13 meetings against the Mountain Cats and hold an 8-0 record in home games since Pitt-Johnstown became a league member.
• This marks the first all-time meeting between the two programs in the PSAC Tournament.
