PSAC Playoffs: Cal U earned the second seed from the Western Division and a first-round bye in the PSAC Tournament. The Vulcans will host sixth-seeded Gannon from the West after the Lady Knights posted a 71-67 upset victory at third-seeded Edinboro on Monday. The winner will play the advancing East team from top-seeded Kutztown and fourth-seeded Lock Haven in the semifinals of the league tournament.
In the other half of the bracket, top-seeded IUP will face fourth-seeded Seton Hill in a rematch of the final game of the regular season. The winner plays the advancing East team from third-seeded West Chester and second-seeded Bloomsburg.
Regional Rankings: The newest regional rankings will be revealed on Wednesday afternoon prior to tipoff. The PSAC boasted four teams in the latest regional rankings, however, those rankings don't reflect losses for three of the four teams. The final rankings and pairings for the NCAA Tournament will be announced on Sunday, March 10.
Records: Cal U enters the PSAC Tournament with a 23-4 overall record behind a 17-4 mark in league play this season. The Vulcans have won five of their last six games after dropping back-to-back games in early February. Meanwhile, Gannon enters with a 14-16 mark this year behind a 9-12 record in conference action. The Lady Knights lost five of their last seven games to close the regular season.
Scouting the Vulcans: The Vulcans feature one of the premier defenses in the PSAC this year, ranking second in the league in scoring defense at 58.9 points per game and pace the conference with 13.93 steals per game. Seairra Barrett is one of the top players in the PSAC after missing all of last season due to injury. She sits third in the league in scoring at 21.6 points per game and leads the conference with both 8.9 rebounds and 2.9 steals per game. Fellow senior
Abbey Sporio is averaging 15.1 points over the last seven games and ranks third in the PSAC with 2.7 steals per game this season. Senior

Gina Vallecorsa both nearly average 10.0 points per game with Vallecorsa pacing the team with a .379 three-point field-goal percentage. Sophomore
Bianca Jasper rounds out the starting lineup and is averaging 11.2 points over the last five games.
Vulcans in the PSAC Tournament: Cal U is making its 19th-consecutive appearance in the league tournament and is tied for the most conference titles in league history with six. Last year, the Vulcans posted a first-round victory before suffering a loss in the quarterfinals. Cal U previously advanced to the PSAC Championship in three-straight years, winning back-to-back titles in 2015 and 2016.
Scouting the Lady Knights: Gannon also sits among the top five in the PSAC this season in scoring defense, allowing 65.0 points per game. The Lady Knights are also highly efficient offensively, as they rank second with a .439 field-goal percentage. Senior

Sydney Mitchell scored a career-high 20 points on Monday in the win over Edinboro after accounting for a combined three points in the last two games of the regular season. The Lady Knights feature one of the top newcomers in the PSAC in
Tori Obenrader, who averages 7.8 points and 7.0 rebounds per game while playing primarily off the bench.
Lady Knights in the Playoffs: Gannon is making its ninth appearance in the PSAC Tournament since joining the league for the 2008-09 campaign. The Lady Knights have posted a 10-7 record in the tournament and advanced to the finals three times in a five-year span from 2010-14, winning the championship in 2010.
Series: Cal U holds a 15-13 record against Gannon since the Lady Knights joined the league and have won the last nine meetings dating back to the 2014-15 season. The Vulcans and Lady Knights have previously met three times in the PSAC Tournament since 2010 and Gannon holds a 2-1 mark in the league tournament. Cal U won the last meeting in the PSAC Tournament versus Gannon, posting a 66-53 victory at Hamer Hall in the quarterfinals in 2015.

Box Score) The Vulcans jumped out to a 16-0 lead to start the game on Feb. 13 in a 79-45 victory over the Lady Knights at the Convocation Center. Barrett scored 33 points on 13-of-21 shooting and 7-of-11 from the free-throw line. She also finished with 13 rebounds, two assists, two blocks and three steals despite barely playing in the fourth quarter. Sporio added 14 points on 6-of-12 from the floor and eight other players scored in the contest. Cal U forced 33 turnovers that led to 41 points in the win.
Head Coaches: Jess Strom is in her eighth season as head coach and 13th overall as a member of the Cal U coaching staff. She has led the program to a 188-50 overall record behind a pair of 30-win seasons, including the 2015 NCAA National Championship. Strom was named the PSAC West Coach of the Year in both 2015 and 2016 before being tabbed the WBCA Atlantic Region Coach of the Year in 2017.
Gannon is led by sixth-year head coach
Jim Brunelli, who has led the program to the PSAC Tournament for the fifth time during his tenure. He holds an 187-137 overall record in 11 seasons as a head coach, as he previously spent time at Anderson (S.C.). Brunelli guided the Lady Knights to 28 victories and an appearance in the regional semifinals during the 2013-14 campaign.
