Box ScoreBREVARD, N.C. (March 8) – The Vulcans closed out their spring trip to the Carolinas by posting a 9-0 victory against Brevard in non-conference play on Tuesday afternoon.
With the victory, the No. 14 California University of Pennsylvania tennis team earns its fifth-consecutive win to improve to 6-2 on the year. The Vulcans earned four wins over four days during their spring trip to the Carolinas, claiming two wins over members of both Conference Carolinas and the South Atlantic Conference (SAC). Meanwhile, the Tornados fall to 2-8 overall.
The Vulcans began the day by sweeping doubles play. The junior team of
Alyssa Savill (Holbrook, Australia/Billabong) and
Veronika Mikulis (Otterburn Park, Quebec/Heritage Regional) won their fifth-straight match after earning an 8-0 victory over Rachel Stanford and Katie Hatter at second doubles, while junior
Jasi Witherspoon (Macon, Ga./Howard and freshman
Holly Bennett (Kingston, United Kingdom/Sussex Downs-Lewes) posted an 8-1 win over Nirvanna Silva and Sam Miranda at the first position. The team of freshman
Jacqueline Olivia (Bandung, Indonesia/SMAK 1 BPK Penabur) and sophomore
Lena Dimmer (Wallendor-Pont, Luxembourg/Lycee Classique) remained unbeaten after earning an 8-2 victory against Kristen Rathbun and Claire Dysart at third singles.
Cal U completed the match sweep by winning all six singles matches without surrendering a point. Witherspoon opened the session with a 6-0, 6-0 win against Miranda at second singles, while Mikulis posted her fifth-consecutive victory by earning a 6-0, 6-0 win over Stanford at the third slot. Bennett remained undefeated in singles action this season by posting a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Hatter at the fourth position before Savill extended her winning streak to five matches with a 6-0, 6-0 win against Dysart at the fifth slot. Olivia also remained unbeaten this spring with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Rathbun at the sixth position before No. 24 Dimmer completed the sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Silva at the first slot.
The Vulcans will be idle for a week before returning to action on March 18 when they travel to face Davis & Elkins at 2 p.m.
