Four Vulcans earn academic laurels

CALIFORNIA (May 12) – The California (PA) tennis team placed four players on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team on Tuesday afternoon.

Senior Leandra Guldimann, sophomore Garance Laforet, senior Diletta Maria Mungo and junior Lilli Schreiber earned the honors from the organization. Guldimann and Mungo received the academic laurels for the third-consecutive season, while Schreiber collected the academic accolade in back-to-back years.

Guldimann shifted to first singles during the spring semester and ranked second on the team with 12 victories in singles action. She paced the team with a career-high 17 wins in doubles play, including 13 victories at the top slot. Guldimann boasts a 3.94 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) while completing a degree in biology with a concentration in pre-medical science and a minor in chemistry.

A native of France, Laforet led the team and tied her career high with 13 wins in singles play while splitting time primarily between the third and fourth slots. She also tallied 15 wins in doubles action to finish second on the team. Laforet holds a 3.71 cumulative GPA while majoring in management.

Mungo finished with 11 victories in singles action while playing primarily at the second position. She also tied her career high with 13 wins in doubles play behind 10 victories at the second slot. Mungo maintains a 3.95 cumulative GPA while completing a degree in economics with a minor in honors interdisciplinary studies.

A 5-foot-7 junior, Schreiber tallied 10 wins in singles play between three different slots in the lineup. She finished the year with eight victories in doubles action while playing with a pair of doubles partners. Schreiber boasts a 3.85 cumulative GPA while pursuing a degree in psychology with a minor in nutrition and fitness.

To qualify for CSC Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, maintain a cumulative 3.50 GPA and have been in the lineup for 70 percent of the team's total matches. Additionally, each institution is limited to four nominees in the sport of women's tennis.

Guldimann was chosen as a CSC Academic All-America finalist and advances to the national ballot with the CSC Academic All-America Teams being announced next month.
