CALIFORNIA (Sept. 12) – The California (PA) tennis team opened its fall campaign with a weather-shortened 4-2 victory against Shippensburg in non-conference play on Saturday afternoon at Roadman Park.
NOTES
• The Vulcans (1-0) return just three players from last spring when the program qualified for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament for a consecutive year.
• Cal opened the match by earning the doubles point with two victories in the session.

Marion Sendra Lara started play with a 6-1 win at the second slot.
• The Vulcans secured the doubles point with a 7-5 victory by sophomore
Fernanda Sandoval Martinez and freshman
Sarai Salinas at the first position.
• Shippensburg tied the match score before Sendra Lara collected a 6-0, 6-3 victory at singles.
• The Vulcans later reclaimed the lead with a 6-4, 6-2 win by Heacox at the third position and Salinas followed with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at the second slot.
• Sandoval Martinez held a lead in the third set before weather forced the match to be left suspended.

• Cal is idle for a week before hosting Rutgers-Camden (NJ) on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 12 p.m.
• The Scarlet Raptors are an NCAA Division III program and advanced to the finals of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) last spring.
