• Senior Marla Simmons, the PSAC East Athlete of the Year, leads the team with 14.3 points and 3.2 steals/game and is second with 5.8 rebounds/game.
• The Huskies rallied from a 12-point deficit in the second half on Friday to earn an 81-76 win over Gannon before posting an 85-69 victory over Shepherd on Saturday.
ABOUT THE SERIES• Cal U leads the all-time series by a 12-8 margin after the teams split two meetings this season with the last coming in the PSAC Tournament last Saturday.
• This marks the first contest between the two programs in the NCAA Tournament, while the teams have faced each other five times in the league tournament.
HOW SWEET IT ISThe Vulcans are in the Sweet 16 for the seventh time in program history, including the second time in the last three years. Cal U holds a 4-2 all-time record in regional championship games with a 2-0 mark at Hamer Hall when playing for the regional title (2004, 2009). Meanwhile, Bloomsburg has advanced to the Sweet 16 for a consecutive season and is seeking its first Elite Eight appearance since 1989.
GUARD THE ARCBloomsburg ranks second in the PSAC and among the top 20 in the country with a .380 three-point percentage. The Huskies have made at least 10 three-pointers in a game six times this year, including 11 treys on Friday during the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Bloomsburg is shooting at a combined 40.8 clip (31-of-76) from beyond the arc during the PSAC and NCAA Tournaments. The Vulcans limited the Huskies to only three treys last Saturday in a 63-49 victory in the PSAC Tournament.
FRANTIC FRATZSenior
Kaitlynn Fratz is averaging 19.2 points/game over the last five games, which spans both the PSAC and NCAA Tournaments. She has scored at least 14 points in each post-season game this season, while playing all 40 minutes four times. Fratz nearly matched her career high with 32 points (22 first half) at Bloomsburg last Saturday in the semifinals of the PSAC Tournament. The high-energy, 5-foot-5 guard is also averaging 5.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.2 steals/game in the post-season.
GETTING DEFENSIVEBloomsburg and Cal U rank first and third, respectively, in the PSAC and among the top 25 in the country this season in scoring defense. The Huskies yield just 59.0 points/game and have allowed opponents to score 70 or more points in a game only four times this season (two overtime). Meanwhile, the Vulcans allow only 59.7 points/game and just four teams have scored at least 70 points against them this season.
MAKE THEM COUNTSophomore
Miki Glenn leads the team and ranks fourth in the PSAC in scoring this season with a career-high 15.9 points/game. She is the first Cal U player to total over 500 points since the 2010-11 season behind eight 20-point games. Glenn has shattered the single-season school record for free-throws this year, as nearly 40 percent of her points have come from the charity stripe. She ranks first in the PSAC with 198 free-throws made and 235 free-throw attempts, while sitting fourth in the league with an .843 free-throw percentage. The West Virginia native is already third in single-season league history for free-throws made with Melissa Swartz of Shippensburg holding the record of 219 free-throws during the 1995-96 campaign.
HAMER HALL HISTORYCal U holds a 12-1 record at Hamer Hall in the NCAA Tournament since 2002. The lone loss by the Vulcans in Hamer Hall during that span came against Millersville during the second round of the 2010 NCAA Tournament. Cal U last captured the regional championship in 2009 with a 64-40 victory over Gannon at Hamer Hall.
STEADY MAHADYSenior forward
Emma Mahady has increased her scoring average in each of the last three seasons, reaching a career high of 14.0 points/game this year. She ranks No. 14 in school history with 1,215 career points and also sits eighth all-time with 197 steals. Mahady has been limited to a combined eight points on 3-of-22 shooting in the two previous meetings against Bloomsburg this year.
FAMILIAR FACEIn each of their previous three Sweet 16 appearances, the Vulcans have faced an opponent they faced at least once previously during the season. Cal U played PSAC West-rival Gannon in both 2009 and 2013 and faced Millersville for a third time in 2008.
