PSAC Tournament Preview: Edinboro

CALIFORNIA (Nov. 16) – The California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team will travel to Edinboro for the quarterfinals of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m.
 
Tickets: All students from PSAC institutions will be admitted free with a valid student ID. The PSAC mandates the prices for adults at $7 and for students of non-PSAC institutions at $2.
 
Live Coverage: Edinboro will provide a live video stream for the match, and the link will be made available before the contest begins. Live updates will also be available throughout the game on the official Twitter feed of Cal U athletics (@calvulcans).
 
PSAC Playoffs: Cal U is the No. 4 seed in the PSAC West and will travel to face top-seeded Edinboro. Clarion is the No. 2 seed and hosts the No. 3 seed Gannon in the quarterfinals. In the PSAC East, Pitt-Johnstown earned the No. 1 seed and will host the No. 4 seed Lock Haven on Tuesday, while the No. 2 seed Shippensburg hosts No. 3 seed West Chester. After the quarterfinals, the highest remaining seed in the East will host the semifinals and the championship on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
 
Regional Rankings: Edinboro ranks No. 3 in the Atlantic regional rankings that were released by the NCAA last week. The Fighting Scots have been ranked No. 3 in each of the regional rankings released this season. The final regional rankings will be released Wednesday before the NCAA Selection Show on Monday, Nov. 23, at 7:30 p.m.  
 
Records: Cal U enters the PSAC Tournament with a 16-16 overall record behind a 14-8 mark in league play. The Vulcans ended the regular season on an eight-match winning streak to clinch a post-season berth after starting the year 2-8 overall. Meanwhile, Edinboro enters 30-5 on the year with an 18-4 record in conference action. After winning 13-consecutive PSAC matches earlier this year, the Fighting Scots have lost three of their last five league meetings.
 
Scouting the Vulcans: Senior Mary Lavery leads the team in kills this season with 270, while junior Danielle Hayes has collected 268 kills. Senior Miranda Fouzie ranks among the top-10 in the league with a .300 hitting percentage and Lavery sits a behind her in the conference hitting at a .261-clip. Junior Megan Litoborski paced the offense with 821 assists this year after splitting time with earlier in the year. Sophomore Ashley Leto leads the team with 3.77 digs/set, which ranks among league leaders this year. Fouzie has tallied 110 blocks this season and now sits third in program history with 447 total career blocks.
 
Vulcans in the Playoffs: Cal U has now earned a berth in the PSAC Tournament in 11-consecutive seasons. During this span, the Vulcans have won six PSAC Championships and earned a spot in the finals on eight occasions. Overall, Cal U has won eight conference championships in program history.
 
Scouting the Fighting Scots: Edinboro enters the contest as the conference leader in kills (1,708) and assists (1,522). The Fighting Scots are led by sophomore Challen Litwiler, who ranks third in the league with 3.66 kills/set and has registered 60 service aces, which is the most in the PSAC this season. Sophomore Sydney Trathen has guided the offense with 1,222 assists this year, which is third in the league. Senior Marah Maycock ranks among leaders with 4.67 digs/set this season, while junior Victoria Severo sits among the conference leaders with 100 blocks on the year.
 
Fighting Scots in the Playoffs: Edinboro has claimed nine PSAC Championships in its program history. This is the first appearance in the PSAC Tournament for the Fighting Scots since 2011. The program previously appeared in the conference's post-season for five-straight years from 2007-10.
 
Series: Dating back to 2007, Cal U leads the series by a 19-4 margin. This is the third time the two teams have met in the PSAC Tournament during this span with the teams splitting the previous two meetings.
 
Last Meeting: (Box Score) Cal U won its eighth-consecutive match and clinched the fourth seed in the PSAC West after defeating Edinboro 3-2 on the last day of the regular season. Senior Mary Lavery set career highs with 22 kills and 28 digs to record a kill/dig double-double. Junior Megan Litoborski tallied 49 assists to lead the offense, while classmate Abby Matusik led the VUlcans with a career high 32 digs. The Vulcans held the Fighting Scots to a .167 hitting percentage after committing 25 attacking errors.
 
Head Coaches: Peter Letourneau is in his fifth season at Cal U after previously coaching at Frostburg State. Letourneau has guided the program to a pair of PSAC Championships, including last season. He has compiled a 139-47 record as the head coach of the Vulcans and was the 2011 PSAC West Coach of the Year selection.
 
Missy Soboleski is in her 11th season at the helm of the Edinboro program and has previously coached at Gannon and Mercyhurst. Soboleski has compiled a 255-139 record as the head coach of the Fighting Scots. She has led the program to the PSAC Tournament on six occasions, including one appearance in the finals in 2010.
 
Up Next: The winner will advance to the semifinals of the PSAC Tournament and will face the winner of Shippensburg-West Chester on Friday, Nov. 20.
